Not sure what to say?

This copy of the article has hung in my home since 1982

I was very saddened to hear about Dave's death, and so late. I was one of the Marines who greeted Dave and escorted him to the Channel 4 cameras after his win at the 1982 Detroit Free Press Marathon. They didn't want the other TV stations to get Dave's interview first. It was quite a thrill to see ourselves on the front page of the Free Press Sports section, the next morning. I have the article framed and have had it displayed with my memorabilia for many years. I have often wondered what...

Just found out about this tragedy. My condolences to all his family. I met Dave in 1983 at Vic Tanny's in Ann Arbor. He was kind enough to take me on a couple of training runs at my pace. I was concerned that I would mess up his training but he won the Cherry Festival 20k the following weekend so I felt better. He was an inspiration to anyone who was interested in running. He told me many stories about his experinces while we ran. I asked short questions and Dave gave long answers which was...

Very sad news. I didn't know Dave well, as he was a bit older
than me in school, but I'll always remember when just the two of us ran together at the suggestion of the fine East
Jackson track and cross country coach Jim Nelson. Dave was
instructed to "put me through the paces" so to speak, to help push me to a higher level. This was a unforgettable
lesson indeed. I loved his mentality about running, very uncomplicated and pure. A seriously inspirational and influential...

This news has made me simply very sad. My contacts with Dave were his regular stops at our place of business on his route - he'd always have stories of his family, his dog, and always his writing and his marathoning, and always a smile. Most impressive is that he would remember waht we had talked about previously - even though we knew he had hundreds of other stops and discussions, he did remember and was interested in how we were doing. To lose a light such as his at such a young age is...

Am sorry to hear about this accident;though i didn't know Dave well,i knew who he was and what he contributed to as an world class American marathoner;Dave played arole in lifting American marathoning to its highest level ever

I'm very sorry to hear the news. I knew Dave when I was a student at Wake Forest and Dave was living in Winston-Salem and being coached by coach John Goodridge. Dave made a real impression on me with his dedication and friendliness and, of course, outstanding running. He was a real role model for our Wake team. I'm glad I knew him.

I just found out about the accident and could not be more sorry for the loss of Dave. I have triathons/duathlon to thank for fostering my friendship with Dave over the last couple of decades. He was always there to give me a hard time ( I thoroughly enjoyed bantering with him) and to lend his encouragement. I will miss Dave. My deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends.

I didn't know him as well as I would have liked, but I always enjoyed and learned from his writings on RedState and the Minority Report. My thoughts and best wishes for the family.

To Dave's family, So sorry for your loss. We only knew Dave from his stops at our place of business. He was full of life, loved his family, talked about his grandchildren and dogs with pride...we will miss his stories and his smiling face! You are in our thoughts and prayers.
