David E. Hughes, III, 77, of Bangor, PA, passed away Thursday, November 26th, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg Campus, Bethlehem, PA.
David was born in Bangor, PA on October 14, 1943, a son of the late David E. Hughes, Jr. and Berniece L. (Buskirk) Hughes.
He was the husband of Helen A. (Handelong) Hughes. They would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on December 21st. David was a 1961 graduate of Bangor High School. He was employed as a switchman for the former Commonwealth Telephone Company in Bangor, PA until retiring in 2009. He was a member and Past Master of the Portland Masonic Lodge 311, F&A.M., a member of the Irem Shriners, a member of the Scottish Rite in Allentown, Worthy Patron of the Monroe Chapter 99 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Brodhead Watershed Association, and a member of the Brodhead Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
David was a lifetime member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bangor, PA.
In addition to his loving wife Helen, David is survived by a daughter, Bridget D Hughes, two sisters, Charlene and Mary Lou, a beloved cat Belle and grand-cat Cleo. He was preceded in death by a daughter Christine L. Hughes.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gaffney Parsons Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., "Village of Johnsonville" Bangor, PA. Online condolences may be offered at gaffneyparsons.com.

Sorry to read about David’s passing. I worked at the former Commonwealth Telephone Company in Bangor. He was always pleasant to be around.

My thoughts and prayers are with Helen and Bridget. Always a smile on his face and gentle in nature, he will surely be missed. Also, my deepest condolences to Monroe Chapter, OES, where he humbly served with love. Well done, faithful servant David...now rest in peace!
