Not sure what to say?

We first met Dr. Illingworth when our 7 year old son was diagnosed with HoFH. Dr. Illingworth chose to "meet" with us on a non clinic day and took us to the 'lunch room' rather than an examining room, where he offered our son a soda and we sat around the table where we 'talked.' He took a very frightening moment and made our son (and his parents!) comfortable. In fact, until the day he was no longer able to work, he chose to meet with us on days the clinic was not open and always made our...

I knew Roger at Liverpool in the late 60s. He shared a flat with two other biochemists, Charlie McClean and John Wright. After they graduated with their PhDs in 1970, a couple of friends and I moved into the flat as they vacated. I remember Roger as a quiet person with a wry sense of humor and typical Lake District reserve. My deep condolences to his family.

Roger was my Doctor for over 10 years. I took part in a few statin and vibrate test test drug programs in the early 90's after learning I had Type III multi-media and very high triglycerides, after several vascular problems and operations. Truly believe the prescription, supplement and dietary programs he recommended have helped prolong and enrich my life. God bless his remaining family and his memory! He was a wonderful man and a great friend and Doctor.

His dedication to advancing our knowledge of genetc hypercholesterolemia and his devotion to his patients were unforgettable memories. We will miss him greatly. -Neil Stone MD (Northwestern, Chicago)

I worked with Roger on many national panels, and not only was he a highly respected scientist, but a great person. He treated others with kindness and respect. I learned so much from him, as we all did in the lipid world, which has saved thousands of lives. My deepest sympathy to all of you in the Illingworth family, for a great man taken from you too young.

As a participant in his MAXEPA cholesterol study at OHSU in 1983, as a med student, and as a friend, Roger stood out in my memories as enthusiastic about his work, kind and attentive, and a great listener. No more words are really needed. I just liked the guy in all respects. I will miss him and recall that 1983 seems like yesterday. Blessings to all of his family.

Roger was wonderful human. I first met him in the 1990s at OHSU. Aside from his brilliance, I was impressed by his kind, caring, and compassionate attributes.

I first met Roger when he came to the University of Southern California to meet with my boss, Dr. David Blankenhorn, in the late 1980s. I was a "newby" in lipids and Roger always made me feel welcome at the meetings. He was a brilliant and kind man and is remembered fondly by all who knew him.
