DAVID WESLEY JOHNSON, longtime Globe resident and businessman, passed away May 22, 2009 at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa. He was 74. Born to Russell and Lila(Kepple) Johnson in Hammond, Indiana, he joined the US Army and had earned the rank of Captain in the Ordnance Corp by the time he was discharged.

With a BS degree in Geological Engineering, He went work for Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company; served in several positions, and held the title of Landman at the time of his retirement. He was also an astute businessman and was very active in real estate and property management in the Globe-Miami area right up to the time of his death.

He was very active in local clubs and fraternal organizations. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge White Mountain Lodge # 3 (Blue Lodge member where he was entered and raised in 1963), a life member of the Scottish Rite, a member of the Shriners, and the Jesters, Past President of the Globe Lions' Club, Past President of the Cobre Valley Country Club, a member of the Pinal Mountain Elks Lodge, Cobre Valley Community Hospital Foundation Board , and a founding member of S.M.E.

He is survived by his wife: Ilene(Akin) Johnson, daughters: Jean Moss(Michael) and Judith Bessee(Robert), both of Globe, AZ, Janet Donelan(Michael) of West Covina, CA, son: John Johnson(Carol) of Tempe, AZ, and 8 grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Pinal Montain Elks Lodge, corner of Maple and South Streets in Globe with Rev. James Lundy and the White Mountain Masonic Lodge # 3 officiating.

To Ilene and family I was very honored that I got to know Dave. He was one who always had a great story, a hearty laugh or the ANSWER. I will miss having him stop by my desk at First American Title and letting me know where the deal could be had. I don't know if you all will ever realize just how proud he was of his family. Just the small mention of you and he would light up and sing your praises.
