David JONES Obituary

JONES, David Lawrence
David Lawrence Jones passed from this earthly life on November 25, 2015.

David, known as Davy by most of his friends, was born in Chester, PA, and lived there until age 13. His musical interest started young when he began music lessons. He later found his true love in playing electric guitar, and was an accomplished guitarist by the time he was in high school. Many miles and many bands later he ended up in Austin Texas, where he flourished in his music and making friends. He lived in Austin for 35 years, was one of a kind person who never met a stranger, and was never happier than when he had a guitar in his hand playing loud music with his friends, most recently the Hickoids. He was a member of too many bands and had too many friends to list here.

His immediate survivors include his loving fiancé, Rebekah (Becky) Beal, his mother Catherine (Kay)Jones, brothers Kenneth (Ken) Jones, and Glenn Jones, cousin Barbara Crisifulli, several nieces and nephews, and his best friend and partner in music Jeff Smith. He had too many close friends to list here, but you know who you are.

If you wish to make a donation in his honor, please consider donating to HAAM (Health Alliance for Area Musicians), or the American Cancer Society, or Austin Cancer Center where he was provided excellent and loving care. Also, please consider supporting your local musicians.

Love at last to you. How did we miss connecting for so many years? I wasn't asking the right question, I guess. Thought of you often, and I can still hear those Sony sound-on-sound tapes in my head.

I recently learned of David's passing. We went to high school together in Malvern, AR. Sp sorry to have lost touch with him. On behalf of all of David's classmates, we express our deepest sympathies to his family and our profound gratitude for knowing this brilliant and talented man. - Douglass Parker

July 17th was the birthday of Georges Lemaître, a Belgian astronomer who proposed the Big Bang Theory. It's also the day I took some of Davy's ashes (stardust) to be released in Austin. My first stop was the the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. He is now with the fish and turtles in the lily pad pond near the entrance where a wind chime, the same size as me, was making beautiful sounds. He is also in the deep blue pond that Beky had taken a picture of when she was with Davy. And, farther back, since a really nice breeze was blowing, he went out over the field where bluebonnets will return in the Spring. Hardly a soul was around so it was peaceful and I didn't have to hide what I was doing. Next, I kayaked out to Red Bud Island, near Tom Miller dam, where 2 people were laying on a rock having a safety meeting. The smell was strong and blowing our direction, so I let the rest of Davy smoke along with it. Now a little bit of the cosmic Davy is resting in Austin. On Wednesday, July 20th, I brought Davy's red box to Weed-Corley and he went to be with Glenn and his guitar. Beky will followup later with news of his memorial marker at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center.

I love you, my dear brother Davy!

I met Davy in 1979 opening for several of his outfits back at Rauls,he was truly a good friend and a great musical mentor. He is yet another friend I will miss every day forever but I'm truly blessed to have known.
