JUDELSON--David N. David N. Judelson died at New York Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maria Olivia and survived by their children, Paul (Alice), Jeaneane (John), Roy (Mary) and five grandchildren, James, Caroline, Olivia, Jack and Alexander. He is also survived by his second wife, Eva. Known as Jim, he was devoted father and grandfather but was well- known and highly regarded by many in the business world as the President and COO of Gulf + Western which came into being after Jim met Charles Bluhdorn and later the two purchased Michigan Plating & Stamping Co in the late 1950s. They went on to buy close to 400 companies, some of them, known around the world: Madison Square Garden and its teams, the New York Knickerbockers and New York Rangers; publisher Simon and Schuster, video game maker, Sega Enterprises and Paramount Pictures. Jim was also a passionate inventor, a champion of Gulf + Western's development of a zinc battery- powered car. He also co-founded Biopure Corporation which developed a human blood substitute, Hemipure. He was a 1949 graduate of New York University with degree in Mechanical Engineering and had served his country as a commissioned Lieutenant in the United States Army. He was a great listener, and had the passion for improving and inventing processes to make businesses better and more efficient as well as create and invent things to make the world a better place. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

My deep condolences to the Judelson family. Newly graduated, I was offered the job as David Judelson's second secretary at Gulf + Western. I remember the beautiful top floor of the G + W building at Columbus Circle, the executive suites, especially Jim's corner office, the lovely dining room, how the building swayed and creaked, somewhat unnervingly, in the wind. I remember Jim Judelson's kindness. A long time ago, but firmly etched in my memory. Thank you, Jim, for the opportunity to escort Elton John, dressed in an American flag, to your office! May your new journey be an exciting one!

Sending my heartfelt condolences to the Judelsons. Uncle Jim was my favorite uncle. The love, respect, time, and attention he lavished upon every one of the children of this large extended family was huge and genuine. I will always remember his big, handsome smile and the intense, unwavering devotion he had for my Aunt Maria and Paul, Jeaneane, and Roy, who were his three greatest accomplishments. Uncle Jim was our generation's role model of a real husband and father. I'll never forget you, Uncle Jim.
