East Lyme - David E. Kimball Sr., 86, of Niantic and Bonita Springs, Fla., passed away suddenly yet peacefully on June 6, 2014. Born on March 5, 1928, in Bronxville, N.Y., to the late Elsie (Olive) and Warren F. Kimball Sr. He was a graduate of Roosevelt (NY) High School and a World War II veteran. He followed in the footsteps of his father and brother and was a graduate of Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College, class of 1949. With his late brother, Warren F Kimball Jr., he was co-owner of Warren F Kimball & Co. Inc., an insurance brokerage company from 1949 to 1977. The company was founded by their father in 1929. David was an avid bridge player as well as golfer. He will be sorely missed by both family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Doris (Rockwell) Kimball; and by his five children, David E. Kimball Jr. and his wife, Margaret, of Redding, Deborah Kimball of Waterford, Karen Hyland and her husband, Michael, of Niantic, Richard R. Kimball of Niantic, and Elizabeth Wilson and her husband, Michael, of New London, N.H.; his seven grandchildren, David E. Kimball III of Redding, Sydney Kimball of Fairfield, Michael, Katherine, and Daniel Hyland of Niantic, Alexander and Alyson Wilson of New London, N.H. Additionally, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Margaret Kimball and his three nieces, Joan Miller, Lynda Kimball, and Gayle Kimball and their families. The Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic, is in charge of the arrangements. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. A celebration of life memorial will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2014. The memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
