Not sure what to say?

I am truly sorry; what a tremendous loss for you, your family and the communities David served. My prayer is that you find comfort in the strong, yet tender embrace of the Almighty Father. Please know that you come to mind, I vow to hold you up in prayer to the One who promises to never leave us nor forsake us.

We only recently learned of David's passing. What a marvelous friend and academic colleague. His gentle spirit was a comfort to any who knew and loved him.

On 6/9/12 as I longed to be with you all, a colleague taught in the Midlands of England: "Pursue beauty doing what you love to do, and take a stand for something," brightly echoing the lives of David and each of you.

David's spirit lives in the sunsets, woods and waters of his beloved Lake Michigan. We are honored to have known him if even for so short a time. Our sincerest sympathies to Pat, their sons and family.

Praying for strength, love, peace for all of David's family during this difficult time.

Just wanted to express our sympathy to you Pat and your family. Our thoughts are with you as you go through this difficult time.

...and I always thought I'd see you again...
Thinking of you all, much love, Camilla

I had the opportunity to meet David on a few occasions; he struck me as a kind and thoughtful man. No one can fail to see the intellectual relationship he shared even with his wife, my former colleague, Pat Bloem. My thoughts and deepest sympathies are with you and the rest of your family, Pat.

I first met David in Slovakia while he taught there as a Fulbright scholar in 1993. He became an important mentor and a dear friend. I am sure that there are many many students like me whose lives he touched and transformed. He was an extraordinarily wise and good man. The world will miss him!
