Not sure what to say?

With much love and aloha, my thoughts and prayers are with all of those who loved Dave. You are greatly missed.

Mom & Dad Kratochvil, Gary, Cindy & Boys, this comes as such a horrible shock..and my heart is so very, very sad. Being part of the family and David's wife was a blessing - even if for a short while. My heart is with you all and I grieve deeply with you and for you. May David rest in peace. With my love, Jo

David!

You and I met only once when I was a Army Captain in your home. However you were in my memory as a brave and smart Marine officer. I still remember your hospitality. I want to deliver my deepest sympathy to your family. I pray your peaceful rest!

David had a brilliant military career, and all of his family is very proud of his service to our country. But he was much more than a dedicated and professional Marine. He was also very family oriented, and touched the lives of not only his parents and brother, but also his cousins, nephews, nieces, and those fortunate enough to call him their friend. My deepest sympathy goes out to his parents Alice and Duff, and his brother Gary and his family. My prayers are with all of you as you cope...

"Jarhead"..."Squid". Maybe not the way you would expect good friends to start conversations. Dave and I spent thousands of hours paddling these beautiful waters of Hawaii, experiencing the culture of an island paradise and helping each other keep things in perspective. As a paddler, he was strong and relentless; as a friend...you would want no one else to watch your back. I miss him so.

As a cousin you could not ask for a better one. As a man he was soft, gentle speaking and kind. One of the best. When I was so sick he was here for me. Life brings you few true friends and with Dave you needed just a few as he was so great. I feel so sad to have lost him but I know my sadness is much less than the loss being felt by his sweet parents - Aunt Alice and Uncle Duff. My mother loved David like a son right up until she too left us. I know she has welcomed him with open arms....

My deepest sympathies, Dave and I were classmates at Annapolis, in many classes together and summer cruise. Ran into him in Okinawa when my Seabee battalion was deployed there in support of the Float, we had a great time remembering the "not so great times". I am sure he will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

Semper Fi, Dave, you leave behind a treasure of memories for everyone.

I'd like to extend my deepest sympathy to Dave's family and friends. Dave added a lot to my life in many ways: we were room mates Youngster year at the Academy and at The Basic School; we double dated at Mt. Hood College; were stationed in Okinawa together after Frequent Wind; shared pineapples in Hawaii; "killed" more than one bottle of Scotch; and, when he retired he visited us in Arizona. I will never forget Dave's art, humor, boundless compassion, love of life, and the twinkle in his eye.
