Not sure what to say?

I think of Dave often. He was the greatest!

This is a long delayed remembrance from Dave's early musical years. We graduated together from a youth band (George V Roy) in Denver, CO when we were both 16. Dave was already an able soloist. I again by pure chance saw Dave (for the last time) as soloist for the US Army Field Band performing in Great Falls Montana just as I was entering the medical field. A quiet, warm, human who was an important part of what I became.

I think about Dave nearly every day because I have applied many of his trumpet routine / warmup exercises to my own daily practicing. I also remember him when I see beautiful orchids. Now I am living in Miami and they are everywhere. I probably wouldn’t notice or appreciate them so much if it weren’t for him and his lovely collection in Ann Arbor. He was a true mentor for me and I miss him very much.

Playing some jazz while thinking of Dave

Dave was a wonderful player and teacher. I think I can truly say that I idolized him from the moment I heard him play Mahler 5 with Michael T. conducting way back around 1969.
He was always an encouraging and supportive teacher, and later, friend.

We recently returned from a trip to Italy and remembered that Dave often played there. Joan remembers especially passing by one of the opera houses and wondered if Dave might have played there.

RIP, Dave.

My deepest condolences to David's family.

He taught me the art of the trumpet for the princely sum of $10.00 an hour in the early '70s in his home in Buffalo. I will never forget his kindness nor his talent.

I just heard about Dave's death from a colleague last night at yoga class in Buffalo. I too did not know Dave well but through his wife Lisa who was a colleague at SUNY Buffalo. I knew Dave was very dedicated to his craft and got to experience his wonderful practice routine at home once. Lots of loving energy and prayers to Lisa and the family. Love, Jonathan Treible

Although I didn't know David well except through my colleague Lisa, I know that David was so very well accomplished and respected by his peers and in his field How sad his passing is he leaves a magnificent legacy in his students, his children and wife Lisa. He will be missed but the "listeners" live on and enjoy his talent.... xoxoxo Marcia Boyd
