CADILLAC — David Kenneth Malmstrom, of Cadillac, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009. He was 58. David was born June 5, 1950, to Kenneth and Josephine (Knudsen) Malmstrom.
After graduating from high school, he received his bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University and later his master's from Michigan State University.
David was a psychology teacher in the Traverse City School District and was also a basketball coach. He loved to be with people and constantly put others' needs before his own. David's passion was his students, and he helped them anyway he could.
He loved to golf, cook and play card games.
David was a member of Temple Hill Baptist Church.
David is survived by his sisters, Vicky Diehl of Cadillac and Jan Bucher of Petoskey; father, Kenneth Malmstrom; nieces and nephews, Melissa Diehl, Jimmy Diehl, Bran Bucher and Randi Vazales; good friends, Chip and Marie Jerome and their three children.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Malmstrom.
A memorial luncheon will be held at noon on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Temple Hill Baptist Church, 1601 West Division Street, Cadillac.

"Malmy" as all the basketball players knew him was a great guy. It's been at least 30 years since I've seen or talked with him, but when we reminisce about high school, he usually is a part of those memories. My condolences to the entire family.

I graduated in 1976, Mr. Malmstrom taught psy class with interesting views and many stories. He was a very nice person and a good instructor as well as a good coach.God Bless you
