Not sure what to say?

Being fatherless growing up, I always felt a bit awkward extending my handshake when introduced to adults as a young kid. Mom tried to teach me proper etiquette growing up. Interestingly, that in 6th grade, Dave Markle also instilled the friendly handshake among us youngsters to him, always followed by a bit of friendly teasing and encouraging statements. He was a true mentor who I think about from time to time. In the picture, probably from 1968/69, It's caption reads: "Boy's City Boy's...

Dave, as us youngsters would call him, always had a joke and a smile for any kid at Boys City when you walked through the door, and he ensured we'd always shake hands. Fatherless, I was always happy when he'd play the occasional game of bumper pool, ping pong, or pool with me and other boys, but sad when he'd bow out to let us boys play without him. I kind of knew why, but was elated when he'd join us. Funny the small things you remember, and many others about Dave at the time, and they...

Addendum to my recent message: My apologies, I meant to say: "I am sad to see that Dave has left us, but he has assuredly left a very valuable spot in my episodic life." Also, Tom, thanks for your kind message. I would be happy to meet you anytime. My email is: [email protected]. Best, Tim

Tim: What a nice tribute to my brother Dave. When I attended Cal-State Hayward, I came to the club many times to help and watch. Who knows, I might have talked with you. I later became a Juvenile Probation Officer in Solano County. I worked with kids and families for thirty plus years. Dave and I came from the same branch of the tree. Maybe we could meet up and have lunch someday? I live in Vacaville, not too far away. Tom

Dear Tom, I just saw that you had replied to me earlier so my apologies for reaching out again today without first checking. I am so honored to have been under David's tutelage. I grew up without a father so "Dave's" influence and guidance was so valued during my junior high and high school years...so many fondly remembered stories about Dave. He always had a great wit and positive guidance for us boys. I became City Manager in 71/72 and learned much during those years. I originally joined...

Was David a director of Boy's Club in the 1960s/70s? If so, I was actively involved in the club as a member, City Manager, and employee. Many fond memories of those amazing times in East San Jose, California. If this is the David Markle, he shaped my life in so many pivotal ways for which I am forever grateful. Tim Gnazale

Tim, Dave was the Director of Boys Clubs in San Jose for many years. He loved he kids he mentored.

I'm not sure if this is the Dave Markle that was director of East San Jose, California's Boy's City Boy's Club in the 1960s/70s. If so, he was a great guide to me and hundreds of boys in the under-privileged area. If somebody knows of David in this capacity, please write your message here. Tim Gnazale
