1959 - 2025
South Hadley
David B. Massey, 65, of South Hadley, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Holyoke, MA and raised in Granby, David made a quiet, meaningful life with his wife, Sofia (Kostides) Massey, in South Hadley. A simple man who never sought the spotlight, David lived by example - steady, kind, and always ready to lend a hand without expecting anything in return.
Together with Sofia, David owned and operated Serafino's Restaurant in Easthampton. He then worked at Sonoco Products for 20 years and later at KIK Consumer Products as a forklift operator.
David had a lifelong love for auto racing, especially Formula 1 and NASCAR. Coincidently, meeting Sofia at age 16 in driving school and later beginning a lifelong partnership filled with devotion and quiet strength.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Sofia of South Hadley; his cherished son Dr. George D. Massey of Bloomington, IL and George's fiancé Dr. Hansol Chung; his mother Joan Massey of Danforth, ME; sisters Pearl Lilly (Michael) of Greer, SC and Catherine Massey (Sheila) of Slippery Rock, PA; and brothers Daniel Massey (Kathleen) of Granby, MA and Robert Massey (Lori) of Danforth, ME.
David was predeceased by his son Robert J. Massey, his father Robert Massey, and his parents-in-law George and Elizabeth Kostides who loved David as their own son.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 11:30 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Holyoke. Calling hours will precede the service from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at the church. The burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery in South Hadley. Memorial donations in David's memory may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 410 Main St. Holyoke MA 01040.
