David H. McHenry

David H. McHenry age 87, of Erie, died Saturday May 30, 2009 at Pleasant Ridge Manor East. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 2, 1921 a son of the late Carroll and Emily Hunter McHenry. Following his military service in the United States Army during WWII, he graduated and obtained a B.A. in English from Westminster College in 1946. David specialized in Advertising and worked as an Advertising Manager for The Tuberculosis Association, General Electric Transportation as well as for Eriez Magnetics from where he retired in 1986. He was a member as well as an Elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Erie and served faithfully for many years. He also loved reading and gardening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. Nevin in 1993, an infant son, Peter McHenry, and a son, Michael McHenry. David is survived by three sons: Stephen McHenry and his wife Gloria of Erie; Mark McHenry of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Christopher McHenry of Ft. Worth, TX; two daughters: Ellen Garloff and her husband Samuel of Etters, PA and Melissa Beahm and her husband Larry of Erie, PA; and a daughter-in-law, Kathy McHenry of Livingston Manor, NY; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a dear friend, Valentine Bitting. Services will be private. Arrangements are under the care of the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th Street, Erie, PA 16502. Burial will be in Girard Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Erie Unit, 2115 West 38th St. Erie, Pa. 16508-1999.
