MIER, David Lawrence,

71, formerly of Half Moon Bay, Calif., died peacefully at home and on his own terms Tuesday, March 20 2012, after a short battle with lung cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferdinand and Alice Mier; his sister, Carol Bowden; and his son, Andrew Mier. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Carmen M. Giedt; his son, Joel P. D. Mier and his wife, Samantha Dardick Mier; grandchildren, Amanda and Cole of Richmond, Va.; his sister, Susan Sargentini of Oakhurst, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. David was born in Detroit, Mich., on December 28, 1940. He and his family moved to San Mateo, Calif., in 1960 and in 1972, with his own young family, moved to Half Moon Bay, Calif. In August 2010, he and his wife retired to Manakin Sabot, Va. There will be a memorial celebration at his home from 3 to 5 p.m. on April 28, 2012.
