David T. Morong, age 69, of Freesoil, Michigan, died at his home in Freesoil, Michigan, unexpectedly.
He was born on Oct. 14, 1954 in Manistee, Michigan and was the son of the late Francis John and Audrey Marie (Wobszal) Morong. David was a graduate of Freesoil High School with the class of 1972. In high school he was an accomplished athlete having played basketball, and was a member of the Freesoil boys' basketball team, who in 1971, in Class D, were the state champion runner's up. David also was a member of the Freesoil track team, who in 1972 was the regional hi-jump champion. He was employed for many years at the Century Boat Company in Manistee, until the company closed its operations in Manistee. He also enjoyed playing pool and was involved in the Manistee pool leagues, he liked playing his guitar and playing golf in his free time. He was a member of St. John Cantius Catholic Church of Freesoil, Michigan.
He is survived by two sisters, Joanne Aerts of Hart, MI, and Elaine Peterson of Ludington, MI, two brothers, Paul Morong of Manistee, MI, and Gerald Morong of Muskegon, MI., three nieces, Shelley (Tom) Gregwer, Deanne Criswell and her partner, Patrick Murphy and Kelly (Chris) Wiser, two nephews, Bryan (Angela) Aerts and Jason (Anne) Aerts. Numerous grand nieces and nephews also survive him.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Audrey Morong, his brother Thomas F. Morong, two brother's- in-law, Lee Peterson and Allen Aerts and by his sister in-law, Geraldine "Geri" Morong.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Saint John Cantius Catholic Church in Freesoil, with Reverend Dan DePew celebrant. Burial will take place in the Spring of 2024 at Saint John Cantius Church Cemetery, also in Freesoil. A funeral luncheon will follow the Mass, at the Freesoil Community Center.
Relatives, friends and the members of the Saint John Cantius Rosary Society will pray the rosary on Monday, Jan. 29, 2024 at 4:30 PM at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. The family will receive friends, Monday afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the funeral home in Manistee.
The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
