Dr Ontjes was the finest teacher I ever will have had. He was very intelligent and friendly. He was excellent at explaining complicated conditions and was one of the few of few teachers who would make rounds with a group of students, take a complete medical history and perform a medical examination. Years after I graduated from UNC medical school I was visiting my parents and found a note he had written to my parents that was very complimentary of my time on his service. He was an outstanding physician and teacher. I wish there were more like him.

David joined our Harvard Medical School class as a sophomore in 1961 and he was a great contributor to our experience. After we graduated, he took internship and assistant residency at Boston City Hospital from 1964-66. He was a gifted physician, and put many of us to shame with his efficiency. We usually carried responsibility for 7-15 patients at a time, and David's signal accomplishment (in addition to his great care for his patients) was efficiently whittling down his census to low...

I felt so confident in your care as my endo, Dr. Ontjes. You were always kind and reassuring and helped me in many ways during my endless journey through life with Diabetes. Thank you for everything.

Thank you David for great memories from Stafford High. I still remember the dress I wore to the Prom our Senior year when you were my escort. Those were great days when everything was "easy". You have led an interesting life and accomplished much. When our lives are over what really matters is our relationship with Jesus. How well did we love Him?
