David Joe Parrish

Our deepest sympathies to all of you on Dave's passing. I have such fond memories of you growing up.

Dr. Parrish had a profound impact on my life and also career and took time out of his personal life to have an impact on mine. At the time, I probably wasn't that appreciate of it but now looking back it and my career I am very appreciative of that time he gave to myself and also to the other students in the university. A great human being with grace and a willing heart to help! The (almost) never-ending editing on my thesis demonstrated the academic requirement not only on me but also on himself. The many conversations I had with him and his recently published book illustrated his great understanding and passion for life and the environment. The picture of him holding my baby son after my Ph.D. graduation in 1997 radiates his love forever. We will miss you, Dave (Dr. Parrish as I always address him)!

Dave was a good friend, colleague and mentor, and offered wise council to me upon my tenure at VT. He will be missed and I offer my sincere condolences to his family.

As his colleague for over two decades, I have all good memories of Dave. As fellow science educators, I recall my many conversations with Dave, some light-hearted, some much thought provoking. Most supportive and understanding, Dave always sought to improve the lives of those around him. I know but few who match Dave's sense of honor, integrity, decency, and humanism. His life's efforts and work were imbued with noble purpose and will thus remain an enduring legacy. Dave has indeed left...
