Not sure what to say?

David Prochaska was a close friend and important collaborator, and I loved him dearly. I am very sorry to learn of his passing. We did many important things together, not the least of which was our jointly edited (and written) Genealogies of Orientalism: History, Theory, Politics. (U. Nebraska, 2008). David was distinguished by his zest for life, love of family and sense of humor. His work on the colonial history of Algeria was path breaking, as was his interest in art in colonial places,...

Deepest condolences to you and your family, Natalie. We love you and are always here for you.

Though my heart aches, and will so continue when I remember David, I treasure the many terrific memories of our times together since the mid 70's in Algeria and, over subsequent years, together with Nadia during our delightful visits with David and Kathleen in Urbana as well as theirs to Yellow Springs OH. We never seemed to run out of subjects for discussion, analysis, irony and humor. And the most tasty and healthy cuisine! These were the best of times that I feel blessed to have...

I have known David since he first came up to me at the first professional talk I ever gave in academia. We worked together in different ways over the years, and I always found him insightful, good-spirited and thoughtful. We were both sort of mavericks in our different fields. He always looked me up when he came to Washington, DC, but I will especially never forget the evening we spent, together with an English anthropologist, at the tenpin bowling alley in Arcola, IL, after the French...

I'd also like to express my condolences to David's family and those who knew him well. Working with him in the History Department at UIUC, I always knew him as a creative and curious scholar, always putting things together in new ways. He was also very kind to me when I started out at Illinois, for which I will always be grateful.

So many memories of David's humor and friendship. My deepest sympathies go out to his family.

I am so sorry to hear this. Condolences to all of his family. Leslie

Many good memories of David. He will be much missed.

In a community of wonderful scholars and colleagues, David was perhaps the most creative and a great friend. He was one of the first people I met, and he welcomed me warmly to CU. We will miss his brilliant wit and his smile.
