DAVID HOLLEN RAINES Portage, Indiana David Hollen Raines, age 68 of Portage, passed away Friday, January 9, 2009. He was born on October 2, 1940 in Talbott, Tennessee to the late Howard and Mary Raines. He was a longtime area resident. David worked in general construction and was a member of the Local #140 Operating Engineers. He also worked for MacAfee Hillcrest Development and for Unland Concrete. David enjoyed gardening, farming, landscaping and hunting. He is survived by 1 brother, James Raines of Portage, IN; 5 sisters, Anna Bell of LaPorte, IN, Dorothy (Leslie) Krause of Oakwood, GA, Shirley (Donald) Greer of Chesterton, IN, Helen (Roger) Ackley of Westville, IN, Linda (George) Davis of Chesterton, IN; many nieces and nephews, and special friend, Dorothy Frencel of Portage, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mary Raines, 1 brother, Harold Raines, and 1 sister, Agnes Papaioannou. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the VNA Hospice of Valaparaiso, 501 Marquette Street, Valparaiso, IN 46383. Funeral services are Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Rev. Kenneth Gamblin and Rev. Robert Liedtke officiating.
