David Rivas, a resident of Fresno, left to meet Jesus on Sunday January 17, 2016 He is preceded in death by his parents Enrique and Dolores Rivas, his sister MaryLou Sacks and his spouse of 35 years, Carmen V. Rivas. He is survived by siblings; Daniel Rivas, Samuel Rivas, Reuben Rivas, Gloria Moya and Esther Sacks. His Children; Ron Rivas and wife Kerry, Sheryl Rivas-Ramos. He grew up in Sanger, CA and later joined the Army where he served in the Philippines, Okinawa and was a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Division. His fondest memories are his days as a paratrooper. He enjoyed sharing stories of his "jumps" and people he met overseas. He served his country proudly and later that pride grew stronger as his son, Ronald D. Rivas Sr (U.S. Air Force) and grandson, Ronald D Rivas Jr (Army National Guard) would both serve their country. Shortly after his service in the Army, he returned home and fell in love. He was married in November 1963 to Carmen V. Rivas with whom he had two children. He took great pride in his family, both immediate and extended. Family reunions and impromptu gatherings always brought him great joy. David worked 39 years for the City of Fresno's Waste Management Division where he went from lifting cans to driving front and side loader trucks.. After retirement he obtained a motor route for the Fresno Bee. David enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling. He especially enjoyed trips to the Central Coast to have a bowl of clam chowder at Splash Cafe. He had a very giving heart and always helped those in need. He was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ in 1984. He spent his latter years serving the Lord as a dedicated member of Family Restoration Church in Clovis, Ca.

Not sure what to say?

Thank you, Uncle David for teaching me how to do a backflip in your pool when I was 9. I was always doubting myself and lacked courage to try new things for fear of failure. I kept saying I wanted to quit and I couldn't do it. You kept encouraging me to "try again, mija." "Don't be scared." And I did do a back flip, a few great ones as a matter a fact! Thank you, thank you for that memory. Love always, Rene.

I miss you uncle. I know you will be with grandma, aunt Carmen, aunt marylou, grandpa Henry and a whole bunch more including my mom

What a treat it was to see Tio David and his daughter at closing night. I told my hubby it was such a blessing that we were able to spend time with him. I know he touched many lives and he will truly be missed. He's home now with our Heavenly Father. God Bless

Ron this is so beautiful and touching!!!!! Please know how sorry we are for your loss!!!! May God be watching over all of you....Although we only spent time with him at Christmas, Thanksgivings & our Grandkids Birthdays at your house, he was sure a great person to talk to....we enjoyed his company and his many stories......Tom and your Dad just loved talking about all their military service stories.....But you know he'll always be there in Spirit watching over all of you.....
