Johnson Funeral Home, P.C. - Manistee Obituary

David Raymond Rutkowski, 63, of Manistee, passed away unexpectedly Saturday evening, August 27, 2016 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
He was born January 20, 1953 in Detroit, the son of Raymond and Arlene (Robinson) Rutkowski.
David is survived by his parents, Raymond & Arlene Rutkowski of Manistee; sisters & brothers-in-law and families: Michelle & Jim Davis and their children, Bradley, Jennifer & Adam of Minnesota, Deborah & John Roskowski of Washington and their sons, Ryan, Aaron & Brandon of Oregon & Michigan, Carol & John Walter and their daughter, Brianna of Manistee and Lisa & Bob Patulski and their children Eric and Emma of Coopersville, MI; and by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins and friends; and by his dog Toby.
David will join his sister Elaine Clare Rutkowski, who passed away July 1, 2000. They were great buddies and whom he loved dearly. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ernest & Clara (Schuelke) Robinson and by his paternal grandparents, Al & Sophie (Wolski) Rutkowski.
He was an avid Red Wing Hockey fan from age 5 and loved being with the young Manistee up and coming hockey players. Many times he served as goalie for them and loved every minute of it.
David could usually be seen around town as soon as the weather cooled down to his favorite season, winter and hockey time, carrying his hockey stick and wearing his hockey gloves. As such, he acquired the name 'Hockey Dave', living most of his life here in Manistee and loved it.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 8th at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin McClaine officiating. Final interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral beginning at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, those wanting to remember Dave are asked to consider a gift in his memory to either Homeward Bound Animal Shelter or the Chippewa Hockey Program.
The family wants to thank all who shared friendship and kindness with David. He had loving heart and soul and he cared so much for everyone of you, - and you all know who you are. David would say to all of you have a good life and stay out of trouble and sign it 'Hockey Dave'.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Johnson Funeral Home of Manistee. [www.johnson-funeral-home.com]

Not sure what to say?

What does one say about Dave, the sweetest cousin ever? Well, Dave was different. Dave was the only person I know that didn't know how to hate - that loved every person he met. Dave was a true friend to everyone .... he had a heart of pure gold. He was my sweet cousin but it felt like he was really a brother to me. Will miss his big hugs and infectious smile. Love him with all my heart, forever, and can't wait to see him again one day.

Uncle Dave. He was such a light in all of our lives and the kindest soul I've ever met. His smile and genuine love for other people will never be forgotten. He is up in Heaven feeling no pain. We love you sweet Dave. XOXO

My condolences to the Rutkowski family. I made friends with David in 1971 at MHS. We saw each other almost every day at lunch. He would always greet me with "what are we going to do today Kell"
With the verbal greeting came a light punch to the upper arm. (A common ocurrence for males in the 60's and 70's) I gaduated with his sister Michelle in 1972 and never saw David again till the obituary. He looks exactly as I remember him; 44 years ago.

RIP dear cousin. I will always remember your sweet smile and the joy you gave to others. You had a way of lighting up a room. Aunt Arlene and Uncle Ray, I am so sorry for your loss. What a pain I had in my heart when I heard about Dave. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. Hugs and love all around.

RIP Uncle David. We will never forget you.
Love you to the twinkle stars always.

RIP My Friend David. Many fond memories of Dave. Growing up close to the High School and Sands Park, many conversations, many events watched. One of the kindest souls I've ever encountered. Hockey puck..baseball glove...no matter the season..Dave was a friend. My condolences to family and friends.

Dave was truly a friend to everybody. So sorry to hear about his passing. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Dave, you were such a sweet caring person, and a great sports fan! May you rest in peace!
