Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home - Westchester Obituary

David G. Sewall of La Grange, 71, passed peacefully at home December 9, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer.  Beloved husband of Mary nee Kelly; Loving stepfather of Wes Hankins.  Preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Mary Ann (nee Winkler) Sewall. Dear brother of Marilu Gill, Liz Kwit, Dan (Joan) Sewall and Luke (Holly) Sewall.  Proud uncle of many nieces and nephews; Fond cousin and sincere friend of many; Dedicated companion to numerous four-legged friends.

Dave’s career was one of service. He retired after 20 years as a proud member of the Marines and Army. After receiving a degree in Forestry from Northern Arizona University, he was a wildland fire fighter for the State of Arizona.  Dave lived an active lifestyle and loved being outdoors. He enjoyed camping, swimming, kayaking, hiking, biking, skiing and snowshoeing.  His greatest joy was sharing these activities and spending time with family and friends.  After retiring, he dedicated many hours volunteering for Hines VA Hospital in the prosthetics dept. and the “No Vet Dies Alone” program.

Family and friends will be received at the Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home, 10501 W. Cermak Rd., Westchester (2 blks West of Mannheim Rd.) on Friday, January 10, 2025 from 3 pm to 7 pm.  All to meet Saturday, January 11, 2025 at St. Barbara Church, 4000 Prairie Ave., Brookfield for an 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass. Not sure what to say?

Dave was a man of convictions. He also would give you the shirt of his back if you asked. Sad to hear of his passing. I knew him while he served in Germany. He was a good friend to me at the time but we lost touch as of late. The world needs more people like him.

We miss you already. That you, Pete and Kurt went on a fishing trip just last year was the pinnacle of a lifelong bond. It was 60 years ago that all three of you posed together as kids and now on the cousin trip--priceless!

I will miss talking politics, trees and dogs...and will fondly remember all our visits in AZ and back home again.

You'll live forever in our hearts with love, respect and admiration. So long, Dave!

sure going to miss dave, one of a kind no doubt, glad we had good times in flagstaff more than once, and many other times as children and adults. RIP my cousin. donation made to wounded warriors in honor of dave

In loving memory to a dear friend from our childhood and young adulthood. We had great times when we were both home on leave from the service and when he retired from the Army. Dave lived life to the fullest and always had deep compassion for his fellow veterans. You will be truly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time.
God Bless

As a person who grew up in the St. Barbara Church community and attended St. Barbara's Grade School, it has been my good fortune to be friends with the Sewall and Kelly families for most of my life. Although we haven't all kept in close touch over time, a few years ago I had the particularly great experience of reconnecting with Dave at one of the annual St. Barbara's Grade School reunions. We had a great conversation. We shared the things we had experienced in our lives, the places we had...

We'll miss you so very much. You will be remembered every day in so may peoples hearts. Rest in Peace.

Love you big brother! Thanks for being a shining example of service to others.

From the first time I met Dave I really liked him. I could feel his kindness to myself and my husband Paul who was also a Veteran. It wasn’t just his kindness it was a camaraderie of both being Veterans.
Every time I had the pleasure of being with Dave he was always kind, caring and a pleasure to be with.
Wishing his family the blessing of wonderful memories and peace as they move forward.

My dear friend and brother at arms, you will surely be sorely missed by all those who serve with you, your family and friends and mostly from those who enjoy your leadership style. God bless you, my friend!
