I was very shocked and saddened to hear of the death of David Shakespeare and send to his wife, Jackie and their family my heartfelt sympathy and condolences. He was a very distinguished surgeon, kind, caring and meticulous. I was very privileged to have been treated by him. My two artificial hips are still going strong after several years. We must not forget his wife, Jackie, who looked after his clinic. She was very helpful, kind and caring, and if you had any queries she would always find...

Saddned to hear the news of David or Shaky as we referred to him lovingly. I remember one funny incident when he had a taste of his own regulation. David was well ahead of his time and had started to mark the knees he was operating on, long before it became the rule. One day, while he was waiting for his patient in the theatre, there was a delay. On inquiring, it was discovered that the leg was not marked! David exclaimed, 'But it is bilateral, what is there to mark'. Nurses did not budge...
