The Reverend David F. Sherry, age 68, was peacefully called Home on Saturday, March 8, 2025 after a three-year battle with cancer. David was born on July 29, 1956, to Merlene and the late David R. Sherry in Detroit. His Baptism and Confirmation were at St. Matthew Lutheran Church/Detroit MI, where he attended grades 1-8. David graduated from Lutheran High School West/Detroit MI, Concordia College/Ann Arbor MI, and Concordia Seminary/Ft. Wayne, IN.
He married Beth Weber, a Lutheran Teacher, on August 1, 1980, at St. Michael Lutheran Church/Richville MI. Beth predeceased him in 2003. Pastor Sherry served numerous Parishes: Vicarage at Our Savior Lutheran Church/Crookston MN and First English Lutheran Church/Eldred MN 1980-1981; St. Stephen Lutheran Church/Defiance OH 1982-1986; St. Paul Lutheran Church/Millington MI 1986-1994; Our Savior Lutheran Church/Crookston MN and First English Lutheran Church/Eldred MN 1994-1998; Trinity Lutheran Church (Monitor)/Bay City MI 1998-2019; Prince of Peace Lutheran Church/Clare MI 2021-2024 in Retirement. On March 20, 2022, David married long-time family friend Linda Abraham at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Frankentrost/Saginaw MI. She survives him. Some favorite moments were spending time with family, smoking his pipe, reading, golf, traveling, and camping with Linda.
Dave & Beth's marriage was blessed with three sons: Andrew (Amanda), Daniel (Patrice), and The Reverend Jacob (Jessica). He then was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Landon, Brooklyn, Logan, Sarah, Lucas, Leah, Ireland, Charles, Elizabeth, and Gabriel Sherry. David now also adds 3 Abraham Stepchildren: Rachel (friend Jeff Reed), Aaron (Jenny), and Caleb (Emily); and 6 Step-Grandchildren: Noah, Olivia, Joel, Levi, Theodore, and Adam Abraham. Others surviving him include: Mother Merlene Sherry and Brothers Dennis & Donald (Angela) Sherry; In-Laws Jane (Gary) Tillman and Robert (Christina) Broekemeier; Weber Family In-Laws: Donald Weber; Paul (Ruth) Weber, Timothy (Dianne) Weber, Linda Erickson, Laura (Andrew) Diehl; Weber, Bailey, Abraham, and Broekemeier Aunts, Nieces, and Nephews; Wildauer, Fromius, Weber, Bailey, Broekemeier, and Abraham Cousins; and many Friends.
David was predeceased in death by: Infant Brother Daniel Sherry; Wife Beth; Father David R. Sherry; Mother-in-law Shirley Weber; Father-in-law & Mother-in-law Gerhard (Mae) Broekemeier; and Sister-in-law & Brother-in-law Ruth (Bobby Lee) Miller.
Funeral Service will take place on Monday, March 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Frankentrost, 8220 Holland Rd., Saginaw, MI. The Rev. Mark Loest will officiate. Burial to take place at Lutheran Home Cemetery/Monitor Township 5545 8 Mile Rd. Bay City, MI at 3:30 p.m. The Rev. Jacob Sherry will officiate. David's family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. Frankenmuth, on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial suggestions in memory of Pastor Sherry may be contributed to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Frankentrost, Trinity Lutheran Church/Monitor, or Valley Lutheran High School.

I was surprised and very saddened to hear of the passing of Dave. My wife and I both attended Concordia Arbor with Dave. He was in my dorm and we hung out a lot together. He came to our wedding when he was still at Fort Wayne. We both appreciated his attendance. Dave was one of the funniest guys I have ever known and made us laugh every day with his quick humor.
