Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth Obituary

 David R. Sievert

Frankenmuth, MI

Welcomed home by Jesus on Sunday, December 1, 2019, at his home with family by his side; age 55 years.  David was born on March 21, 1964 in Fort Wayne, IN to Raymond and Kathleen Sievert.  He was married to Brenda on July 26, 1986 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in New Hope, MN; she survives him. He graduated from Concordia Teachers college in Seward, NE where he ran cross country and was actively involved in the Music Program. David was the Director of Instrumental Music at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church and School, where he was a member. He enjoyed running and helped as an assistant coach in Frankenmuth cross country. He loved the mountains, hiking, gardening, the outdoors, and especially loved his family, including his faithful companion Ollie. Most important to David was his faith in Jesus Christ his Savior.

Surviving besides his wife Brenda and his parents are: children Katelyn (Robert) Cody of Grafton, WI, Benjamin (Rachel) Sievert of Rockford, IL, Emily (Samuel) Deschaine of Jackson, WI, Liesl Sievert of Frankenmuth, MI; grandchildren Eleanor Cody and Gabriel Sievert; brothers and sisters Matthew (Julie) Sievert of Bend, OR, Rachel McCarthy of Canby, OR, Daniel (Amy) Sievert of Norfolk, NE; father and mother-in-law John (Karen) Radway; sister-in-law Rebecca (Paul) Bartlett; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating David’s life will take place on Friday, December 06, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola, Frankenmuth, Michigan.  Rev. Mark Brandt will officiate. Dave’s family will receive visitors Thursday at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth 590 N. Franklin St. from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Music Program, Defeat MSA, or Concordia University Nebraska.

Not sure what to say?

Many was the day we would see Dave jogging around our neighborhood in Las Vegas as he did in Seward. My wife Carolyn taught with him at Faith High School and I would talk to him when he would come to First Good Shepherd Elementary to teach the band class. I enjoyed Dave playing his trumpet in church, especially for Christmas and Easter services! It reminded me of the services back home in New Orleans. Dave always had a kind word and as he lifted us up, may the Lord lift you up this Christmas...

Dear Brenda, May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Dave was a wonderful Christian and teacher. We are thankful for how he shared his musical talents with our grandchildren and congregation. We pray that God will strengthen and comfort you. He will live forever in your heart.

Our love and prayers are with you, Brenda, and with your families at this time. We know David is either playing trumpet in the band OR running into the open arms of Jesus. We know we have the sure hope of a blessed reunion in heaven as our Lord Jesus defeated Death and we will all be together at the Last Day. We know David made a huge impact on his students and the people he worked and lived with. We are privileged to have known such a Man of God.

Dear Brenda, Liesl, Katelyn & Bobby and Eleanor, Ben & Rachel and Gabriel, Emily & Sam,
We are all thinking of you in Colorado today. God be with you and all your family.
Love from Alamosa,
Josh & Sarah, Thaddaeus, Tirzah, Teddy, Titus, Thessaly, Tilde & Tabitha Cody

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Mr. Sievert will always be one of my favorite teachers. He had a unique way of making everyone feel special and talented. He was great at inspiring people and instilling in them a love and appreciation for music. May God be with you during this time.

This is a "Footprints in the Sand" time of life.
Dave was helpful when I went through a "Foot-prints" era after divorce & rejection at FLHS in Las Vegas. For example, he brought Christmas Carolers to my house when I needed hopeful wishes! I appreciated that he was an island of calm friendship among some misleading, then accusatory colleagues. The world surely could use more friends like Dave, not to mention the talents!
Brenda, I remember you to be a good & true friend too- may...

He was a great man and teacher and friend. You will be missed greatly. You are now with my sister Sheila and both of you can watch over your loved ones still here.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sievert family.

When Dave blew in to the lives of the musicians at St Lorenz, we could never have imagined what an impact he would have on us. Not just as an amazing musician and director, but as a mentor, a friend and always a light for Jesus in all he did. I feel so blessed that my children were able to learn from him and will be forever thankful for the years God gave our Wind Ensemble with him. He was truly one of God's very special angels and has forever left his mark on our hearts and on the music...
