The best headmaster I worked for. He knew how far he could push, but was capable of great kindness also. He more than tolerated alternative views and showed great insight into staff and pupils. I value very highly my eleven years working for him.

Dear Yvonne and family. So sad to hear about David and I know he will be greatly missed. David and I had some lovely chats over the years and I have fond memories of him. The best Headmaster I worked for as Head of History at Merchiston and a man who turned Merchiston into the leading private school in Scotland. It was a wonderful place to work under his direction. His lovely wife Yvonne made them the perfect team.

A kind and supportive teacher & headmaster throughout my time at Merchiston Castle School, fond memories of the "head man" teaching us Maths and abandoning class to give us a tour of the new buildings (replacing the air hall) and also of Castle Gates with the after-dinner games.
