Not sure what to say?

When I learned of Davids illness,I wrote an email to him in May of 2012. I promised that my wife and I would keep him in our prayers. My wife has been battling cancer for 12 months. That is the reason I retired from ITW this past year. David answered the email with best wishes for my wife's recovery.
He will be missed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with David and his family.

I looked up to David as I though he was a hero to achieve what he did for ITW. My thoughts and prayers for a great person and his family.

To the Spear Family,
It was with much sadness that I read of David's death. I knew David professionally and can say without equivocation that he was one of the kindest, sincere, and caring individuals I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I am sure his legacy will continue and I personally am the better person for having met him.

Mike Monroe - former President of Viking Distributing Company - San Fracisco.

I consider myself very blessed to have gotten to know my cousin, David, over the years, especially at the Speer Family Reunion on HHI in 2008. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you remember, tell stories and celebrate who he was in the world and how he touched so many along the way. With deep love,
Barb

Dear Mrs Speer and Family,
All my thoughts are with you. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy. I had the chance to meet David in Belgium 8 years ago and he was a wonderful and kind man. It was a great honor to have met him. He will always be in our hearts.

Barb and family - so sad to learn of Dave's passing. Will always remember his warmth and charm he brought to Barrington from Alabama. He was a good friend and teammate throughout our years at BHS. Dear Speer Family,

Please know that your family will be in my thoughts. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss of a great man and leader. David inspired many, including myslef, to not only be an effective leader at ITW, but to also give outside of work, giving of one's self that is. His impact outside ITW was to me just as mentoring as within the company, which is why I respected him even more. He will be missed, but know that he is in a better place.

To the Speer Family, so sorry for your loss. Rich and Diana were my good friends in high school in Alabama and I remember their younger brother David. I always knew he would grow up to be someone special. He will always be remembered.
