David Arthur Spetrino, Sr.
1937 - 2017

The Last Farewell

On November 10, Dave Spetrino began his last great adventure.  He will travel to the Huon Gulf off the east coast of New Guinea in the Coral Sea, to begin his ethereal explorations.

Dave, noted for a lifetime of exotic adventures, visited over 100 countries and territories, all the continents, and all the worlds’ oceans.  Dave had a passion for life and an endless curiosity about everything.

Bidding him ‘Buon Viaggio’ are his wife Sandi Adams, sons David and Jon, daughters-in-law Kathy and Kristen, and grandchildren Nic, Corinne, and Lane.

Dave was proud of his career in the US Navy and government service, and his affiliations with the Wilmington Civitan Club, the Navy League, the WHAM Society, and a collection of other community activities.

Dave bid a fond farewell to all those who enriched his life.  Ma'a Salama.

L’Envoi:

And when Thyself with shinning Foot shall pass

Among the Guests Star-scatter'd on The Grass,

And in Thy Joyous Errand reach the Spot

Where I made one —turn down an empty Glass!

            The Rubaiyat

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kids Making It and the Wilmington Civitan Scholarship Fund.

A gathering to celebrate David’s life will be held at the Brooklyn Arts Center on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 5-7pm.

Not sure what to say?

Fair winds and following seas, Captain. You were a real asset to the "Tarheel" state and the Navy community.

Dear Sandi, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. May God bless and comfort you and your family during this difficult time.

Dear Sandi, you and your family are in my heart and mind. Sending you love and heartfelt condolences, Karen Asaro

He was one of the greatest men, mentors and patriots I have ever known. He was proud of his sons and did many things for me over the years. I feel honored and blessed to have had the Captain in my life. God Bless sir.
