Dave was always very kind and would welcome me with open arms when ever I would see him at church. He had known my Grandpa Armand (AB) Thompson, who was an engineer for Pacific Northern then Burlington Northern. Dave was one of my mentors in 1964 when I was learning to be a train dispatcher. In fifteen minutes, at three o clock in the morning, using a telegraph key to contact the operator at Pe Ell, he could set the entire railroad between South Bend and Chehalis up so that four logging trains, two NP trains and two Milwaukee trains could operate like clockwork for the next 24 hours without any further instructions.
