Not sure what to say?

I did not know Dr. Summers. I searched for him on the internet after reading his essay in “The Black Humanist Experience.” I wanted to thank him for writing such a wonderful piece. I am sorry that I missed the chance to do so. My sincerest condolences to his family who must keenly feel the loss of such a wise and giving man.

My deepest sympathy. Doc was a great man. He was my friend, my mentor and my teacher. We both traveled the same route to Warren State Hospital every day for 3 years. I learned a lot from him over the time we worked at Warren. He was the first one to address me as Doctor when I finished my PhD. I will always remember him and never forget him or what he taught me. My God bless you as he has blessed me with with the time that I spent with Doc. May he rest in peace and my the Peace of the Lord be...

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

I knew David as an older student at Bruton Heights, and saw those many years ago as a person to emulate. David was an insperation to all who knew him. His family, I am sure of all he accomplished. My thoughts go out to Ernestine and all of his family. I graduated from BHS in "56.

David and I took many classes together at Virginia State, and I respected his ability to solve problems. In addition he always had a great positive attitude. Kind thoughts are with the family on his passing.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.

I did not know Dr.Summers. But I attended Virginia State University 1953-57. So. our paths might have crossed. Just reading his obituary lifted me up and reminded me of time, now perhaps passed, when our black youth struggled against all odds to achieve.

This fine doctor was the first to help me in 1992, with a very difficult condition, R.S.D. I will never forget his caring manner and sensitivity. I am sorry to read of his passing. What wonderful contributions he made to his fellow man. That he was an inspiration to many, I certainly believe. I was fortunate to have met him.
