David J. Sylvia, 74, formerly of Tiverton, died on Friday July 25th surrounded by family at his residence in Palm Bay, FL after a long illness. He was former co-owner of Gray's Ice Cream in Tiverton. He was the husband of Mary Yvette (Williamson) Sylvia for 48 years. Born in Fall River, MA on March 28, 1934, he was the son of the late Manuel and Theresa Enos (Cotta) Sylvia. He had been a communicant of St. Madeleine Sophie Church in Tiverton, where he was a trustee and a member of the men's club. He also was a member of the Tiverton Budget and Recreation Committees. He was responsible for the creation of many Little League Fields, including the Michael A. Sylvia Field at the Town Farm Recreation Facility dedicated to his brother who lost his life in Vietnam. David was a US Army Veteran. In addition to his wife, he leaves daughter Mary, daughter Debra, sons, David Michael, Mark (wife Christine) and Matthew, daughter Rebecca, son Robert, daughter Kathleen (husband Timothy Gacioch) and grandchildren Amanda, Joshua, Michael, Ali, Kyle, Jameson, Jaclyn, Rachelle, Steven, Megan, Lauren and Sean. Visitation FRIDAY 4-8 PM Aug 1st. His Funeral will be held SATURDAY Aug 2nd at 9am from the POCASSET MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 462 Main Rd Tiverton with a 10am Mass at St Madeline Sophie Church, Lake Rd in Tiverton.
