Whitmire Family,
I was a student with Dave in the late 60s and early 70s at Akron U. He was very instrumental and influential in my career path. He was very much admired for his easy going manner with all people in general. He was an asset to the Akron Police Department and to the community. He provided an example for all officers to emulate. He will surely be missed. Rest in Peace.

My heart was broken when I heard of the passing of Captain Dave Whitmire, my deepest sympathies to Captain Whitmire's family ,friends and all the officer's that worked with and knew him. Captain Whitmire was my first shift commander on APD and by far the best, so many good memories from those days. I especially remember that giggly laugh of his especially when he cracked himself up, he especially loved the scene in the 1983 Vacation movie when Chevy Chase accidentally left Aunt Edna's dog...

Whitmire Family,

So sorry to read about Capt. Whitmire's passing. I worked for Cap many years and he was one of the very best. He was one of the commanders everyone wanted to work for. He always took care of his men and you could always count on him to support you no matter what. He will be missed by everyone. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Rest in Peace Brother.
