I was very saddened when I found out Dr. Wilcox passed on. Though I never met him personally, I was fortunate to have corresponded with him via e-mail. It was easy to see his exceptional brilliance and care for people. I am also a strong admirer of his profound knowledge of turbulence flows, and consider him a mentor. In honor of a truly ground-breaking researcher, I am honored to dedicate my turbulence book to him. Indeed, he truly led "An Improbable Life", as his autobiography...

On November 19, 2016, I learned of Dave's death. I was instantly saddened. Dave and I were classmates in Mr. Bill Boucher's 11th and 12th grade calculus classes at Mt Pleasant High School in Wilmington, Delaware. Dave (affectionately known as "rug" because of his hair -- a name given him by an also brilliant student RL) excelled at math -- he was better than me.
I had not heard from Dave for about 45 years or so. I contacted him about 10 years ago and visited Dave and Barbara in...

I was very sorry to hear today (!) of the passing of Dave Wilcox. Dave was an exceptionally fine lecturer at UCLA and a gifted scholar, as well as being a wonderful colleague and friend. I will miss his stopping by my office when he was on campus, updating me on the latest problem sets he was adding to his wonderful fluid mechanics texts. My deepest condolences to his family on their extraordinary loss.

I am deeply saddened by the death of Dave, a great American. While we always did not agree, I always considered him a good friend who shared with me a great love for this country and our conservative philosophy of governing this great nation. Every discussion I had with David was enlightening and enjoyable. His family, and particularly his dear wife Barbara, will miss Dave. His interesting life is an inspiration to young people, and especially those he touched through his volunteer work. The...

My deepest sympathy and prayers for the loss of your husband, father and grandfather "Dave". I was a very good friend of Dave's during his time at Mt. Pleasant. Even though there were some bumps in the road, I always knew he would go on to accomplish great things in in his life. And so he did!! I have fond memories of the kind, sensitive, intelligent young man I knew.
Sincerely.
