Curran-Jones Funeral Home - West Springfield Obituary

David A Williams, 62, passed away in Freeport, Maine after a sudden illness on Feb 28, 2022. David was born into an Air Force family in San Bernardino, CA on July 10, 1959. He was a graduate of UMass and a science teacher in Southbridge and Northbridge for over 25 years. He was an adventurer beginning in the 1970’s with Experiment With Travel (EWT) and loved kayaking, rafting, caving, rock climbing and anything else that sounded like fun. In 1978, David and 3 friends bicycled from Springfield MA to Los Angeles, CA. His family loved camping and travel and ventured all over the United States as well as internationally. David was a creative and animated teacher that inspired interest in the wonders of science for countless students. He made jokes about everything and was a prankster that kept everyone laughing. He leaves his loving wife of 29 years, Susan Gill, and their two wonderful children, Madisen and Kevin of Southbridge, MA. He also leaves his two brothers, Jordan Williams, of Dunedin, FL and Paul Williams of Longmeadow, MA. He was predeceased by his father, Ralph R Williams, in July 2013 and his mother Georgia (Jordan) Williams in August 2021.  In lieu of flowers, David would have appreciated people making donations to New England Organ Donor Services. David: “You will be missed forever”. Funeral services will be private. For online condolences, please visit www.curranjones.com

Not sure what to say?

Mr. Williams is a great teacher. I had them for seventh and eighth grade science. He always cared about us. He’s a great teacher. Sad to see him go.

I worked with Dave during his time at Spalding Sports Worldwide. He was a kind and generous person who worked hard and always had a smile. He will be missed. My condolences to Dave's family.

This came as a complete shock to me. We were classmates at Kennedy Jr HS and Springfield Technical HS and we both swam 100yd breaststroke for the school swim team. Dave also convinced me to play baritone for the St George Olympians drum & bugle corps in their final year of existence, which was a really fun time. I knew he was teaching Science (Minuteman Tech in Lexington, if I recall correctly), but didn't know he had gotten married and settled in Southbridge. I guess he grew tired of the...

Hearing this news today ... heart breaks ... spinning through my memories of Dave and the many shared times at and around EWT - every single one of my Dave memories makes me smile (often shake my head too) .. likely it's been almost 25 years since we were in the same lifespace but the mention of his name -- immediately I hear that voice and that laugh ... this man was a remarkable teacher, patient, able to find humor pretty much anywhere. So many stories that he leaves behind ... his way...

Knowing Dave from the time he spent advocating for the Southbridge Public School system, He was a true and kind person. He always wanted the best for the school and the students and the teachers and he never stopped advocating. He was always kind and it was a pleasure to get to talk to him. Reading his obit, I never knew he was such an outdoor person and that he rode a bike to California. He sounded like he truly lived and he also made a huge impact in Peoples' lives. That is probably the...
