Not sure what to say?

I know it's a bit late but I've only just found out. Still, I need to say something through the tears.

I regularly canoed the Snowy in the seventies and eighties and knew your mother quite well but didn't meet you until I had two punctures down at McKillops Bridge, way down on the Snowy River. Nobody else was around, mid week with little or no chance of a passing car. I rolled the spare wheel(!) up to your shop, you took me in, let me phone a mate to bring me a tube and tyre from...

Paul and Steve with Dave 1990.

I found this old photo today and Googled 'Seldom Seen'. Very sad news.
Steve and I met Dave when we were cycling the length of Oz in 1990. He was a generous host, we stayed for 2 days when we had only stopped for water!! A unique, funny, interesting man who was one of the highlights of our trip. May he rest in peace.

When I invited you home for a feed when you were living in your bread delivery van when we worked in a Melbourne car park way back in 1963 and you moved out years later I never thought a friendship could last so long. Rest in well deserved peace.

Met Dave at the Roadhouse when travelling with my son in 2008. We shared a coffee and a yarn and a lot of laughs. Very sad to hear of his passing. Our roll call of bush characters gets smaller...

Seldom Seen February 2002

Seldom Seen February 2002

Dave and me in 2002

Dave was one of the greatest characters I have met in many years of travel. In 2002 he travelled to Sydney to buy an old Falcon of mine (paid me $100 cash and we spent the lot on beer)and to visit his brother on a yacht at Church Point. Turns out his brother had sailed away some time before (Dave hadn't rung to check if he was there before leaving Vic). He filled up the car with junk from the Council clean-up before heading back south. The old car sat in his paddock for years and survived...

we have just found out about the sad passing of david, he was a true individual person sorry that we did not get to visit him for so long, our sympathy to Deborah and tim.

I met David when I lived in Paris in 1980 or 1981. He was totally charming, very funny and handsome. I think he was actually roller-skating when I saw him on the street, and he just said a very friendly, sexy "Hello!" to me as he skated by.

I was only 21 and ready for a day's adventure with a lovely man. We ate, drank, loved and talked/joked about staying together. He was one of those people I've always wondered about: "What would have happened if .... ?"

Beautiful...
