I did not know him but recently saw a story about him and he lived his life during difficult times but made it a good like by saving wild mustangs. I appreciate his efforts. He seems like he was a true cowboy in every sense of the word.

My daughter and I went to South Dakota to visit the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary in July of 2015. I was completely overcome with the beauty of this place. I have not been the same since returning back to Ohio. I got to meet Mr. O'Hyde while visiting and had him sign my book. He was so gracious and simply said can't sign so fast at my age anymore. I could only thank him for what he has done for these wild ones and so much more. He was one of the special ones and will be missed!

My husband and I had the privilege of visiting The Wild Horse Sanctuary a few years ago. We had a wonderful tour and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We didn't get to meet Dayton Hyde, but last night we watched the first half of his movie biography. Just now, I said to my husband, I'm going to look him up.
Damn! We didn't know he had passed.
He was such a charming man. We were especially touched by his story about Alfred Noyes who was himself touched by young Dayton's knowledge of birds....

I have just spent all night reading Sandy and I have to say its the best book I have ever read. This man had a huge heart and I am so sorry he is gone. Bless you his family. Great writer. Great spirit. A hero in my book. Like him, I take care of wildlife for many years. It has enriched my life.
