Dean Legrand Britt, Jr. entered into eternal rest on April 9, 2016. The relatives and friends of Dean L. Britt, Jr. are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 10:30 AM, Thursday, April 21, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 PM Wednesday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy.
Dean was born on September 6, 1995, in Spartanburg, SC, the son of Maryhelen Zaremba Britt and Dean Legrand Britt, Sr. He attended Charleston County School of the Arts and graduated from West Ashley High School in 2014. Dean was attending Trident Technical College for his degree in Civil Engineering. While working alongside his father, Dean and partner, Lindy Corley, at Britt Land Surveying Inc., he strived to meet his goal of running the family business and eventually passing it on to his children. Family, either by birth or by life, truly was at the center of Dean's world. Dean was a generous and charming young man quick to offer assistance to those in need; from the simplest act of a few kind words to taking the time for someone to share their life's story. He loved life and looked at every day as a great adventure.
Dean is survived by his loving parents, Dean L. Britt Sr. and Maryhelen Z. Britt; his sisters, Pheraby G. Britt and Patricia C. Britt; his grandmother, Barbara H. Britt; his soul mate, Charlotte D. Cortright; his foster brother, Sabastion A. Mandell; his loyal dog, Dory and many adoring aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

I didn't know Dean - my daughter told me the story of the missing - my husband and I launched our whaler that Sunday morning - we were on a mission to find the missing - after a few hours my husband made me realize that we needed to end our search as the winds from the previous day would mean the larger Coast Guard boats would need to search the ocean - my heart was heavy - I wanted to find the missing boaters -I didn't want to go home.... I'm so sorry for your loss - my prayers are with you.

As neighbors of Maryhelen's when she was growing up and while she and my son Stanley were classmates all the way through school, we feel the hurt being experienced by her and the family and friends in the loss of Dean, although we did not know him. May you be comforted by knowing so many people care and are extending expressions of sympathy. May God bless you all and help you through your grief.

To the Britt family we are so sorry for your loss. There are no words that can comfort you at a time like this. Although we did not know Dean very well, the times he came to our house he was very respectful. I was relieved when he would be there to help Cody work on his car. Dean seamed so confidant and ready to help. I know Cody thought a lot of him and that he will miss him. I hope you can find some comfort in knowing what a helpful and respectful young man he was.
