I first met Dean while I was serving as an Army pharmacy officer at DPSC in Philadelphia. We were both assigned to the medical material area. It was my first and only tour of active duty. Dean was a veteran of several years in the Air Force but took time to mentor a young subordinate Army man. I thoroughly enjoyed our association. I left DPSC in early 1971 and the Army later that same year and went to graduate school.
