I remember the first time I saw Dean Potter in Yosemite. I was sitting next to Chongo, a big wall climber and a renowned author, when Dean Potter walked into the food court like a lion with a pride of lions right behind him. Right away his presence impressed me because he conveyed upon me a silent reverence of command. Immediately I asked Chongo, "Who is this guy?" My condolences to the Potter family. I can still remember teaching Dean at GHS. He'd slouch at his desk, giving me a sly grin when I asked him a question about his homework or something. Intelligent, well-liked, I am truly saddened to learn of his passing. He is a great kid who became an even greater man.
