Before receiving his Masters in Education from Colorado State University in 1968, Dean taught high school Industrial Arts at Eldorado, Kansas and at Beatrice Nebraska. In 1969 Dean moved his family to Fort Collins to teach at Fort Collins High School. During his 24 year employment with the Poudre R-1 School District Dean also taught at Rocky Mountain High School and Lesher Junior High School, and was the district curriculum specialist for Industrial Arts.
