Dean L. Welch, age 81, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2009 at his home in Topeka. Dean was born May 27, 1928 in Scranton, KS the son of LeRoy and Hattie Griffin Welch. Dean worked at Frito Lay in Topeka. Dean attended the Oakland Church of the Nazarene where he was active with the Senior Adult L.L.L. for several years. He was a 31 year member of the American Legion Post #400 of Topeka. Dean married Carol Oates February 15, 1983 in Miami, OK. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Stacey Burden of Arlington, TX; a daughter, Kim Mastellar (Shannon) of Wichita; a sister, Iva M. Haynes of Florida and one granddaughter. Dean was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Sherwin. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Oakland Church of the Nazarene. He will lie in state from noon 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Davidson Funeral Home with visitation from 7:00 8:30 p.m. Interment will be at the Burlingame Cemetery with military honors by Post #400. Memorials may be made to the Catholic Community Hospice and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home. Dean Welch

Carol Uncle Dean was a great uncle to me though I did not live close after marriage I still thought of him often. I will miss him and our thoughts and prayers are with you.
