WEST COLUMBIA%%Funeral services for Debbie Shumpert, “Miss Debbie,” will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2005, at Trinity Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Al Areheart. Entombment will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Etheridge “E.D.” Sturkie, Joey Austin, Larry Bass, Paul “Tar” Outlaw, Charlie Price, and Heyward “Dan” Spires. The family will receive friends from 7-9pm on Tuesday, December 20th at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Wayne E. Shumpert, her daughter Stacey A. Watts and her husband Anthony W. Watts, her son Thomas E. Shumpert and his wife Mary Beth Shumpert; three grandchildren, Georgia and Kenneth Watts, and Brayden Shumpert, all of West Columbia.

“Miss Debbie”, as she was affectionately referred to by most, was a loving wife, mother, “Bear Bear”, and teacher. She has been an advocate for children over the last 30 years on so many levels which include being a Title One tutor and an EMH class aide, both in Lexington School District Two, Children’s Church Director at Dunn’s Chapel, serving at the local and state level of the SC PTA, School Improvement Council, Lexington Two EIA Implementation Council, Board member of the Lexington County Children’s Shelter, and Newspaper In Education curriculum author, just to name a few. Her greatest love and legacy is the child care center she began 25 years ago, Miss Debbie’s Nursery School. She was the director and taught the 4 and 5 year kindergarten class. Teaching and encouraging the minds of young children has truly been her passion and gift shared with many!
