COMER, Deborah H. "Debby," 67, of Varina, Va., entered eternal rest on January 1, 2012. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 47 years, James J. Comer; son, James R. Comer "Jimmy" (Amy); daughters, Kendra Madison (Rick), Kristin Pollard (Craig), and Shannon Wood (E.B.); and aunt, Jane Gatling. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Mable Fox and Ann Schaffer; grandchildren, Tyler and Lacie Madison, Meaghan and Eryn Comer, Marissa Wood, and Anderson and Collin Pollard. Debby retired after 31 years of service with Varina Elementary School where she served as a nurse and later as secretary. Upon moving to Varina, Va. in 1969, she became a member of Laurel Hill United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home located at 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue. Services will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2012, 2 p.m. at Laurel Hill United Methodist Church located at 1919 New Market Road, Richmond, Va., with interment to follow at Laurel Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association at 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Va. 23060.

To the Comer family - I am so sorry for the loss of your Mom. I believe Mrs. Comer touched the lives of everyone that went through Varina Elementary. I remember her from my childhood as being very kind and patient. I know my Mother loved working with her. You are all in my prayers.
