To Deborah's family: I share your sorrow in the loss of Deborah. I have many memories of working with her at HUD. Deborah and I worked closely together in implementing the Fair Housing Assistance Program and the Community Housing Resource Board program. Funding for fair housing was new and we worked together to ensure that it was properly implemented. We spent many months working 60+ hour weeks. I am so sorry for your loss. I was unaware of Debbie's illness therefore unprepared for the news of her passing. She was a good friend and a very wise woman. I met Debbie through a mutual friend, Mary George, before discovering we were sorors. She helped me to understand my daughter better. She and Nat also helped tell my story of living with the early effects of Post-Polio via an interview that later aired on public television. Yes, Debbie will be missed but the memories will remain.

My prayers are with you during this time of mourning for the passing of your sister Debbie. I can remember her at your family gatherings as a polite, reserved and proud woman as measured by her soft voice and manner.

I worked with Deborah at HUD. She had such a quiet sweet and graceful spirit. She was the kind of person who cared about people's feelings and used wisdom in her conversations; because of that, she will not be forgotten. I think she will be quoted many times in the years to come. Family, take comfort in the fact that she ran her race well and has gone to rest in heaven where Jesus has prepared a place for her.

I have very fond remembrances from my years at HUD. Deborah was among the first I came to know as as strong, intelligent, self-confident and beautiful nubian Sister. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. May you find comfort in the promise that the Lord will be with you always -- for earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.
