New London, NH-James "Jim" Green, 88, of Hilltop Place, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004 at his home. He was born in London, England on April 29, 1915 the son of Charles and Margaret (Mason) Green. He was a graduate of the Art School of West Ham Technical College in London. Mr. Green worked as a photo engraver for over 40 years. He served in the British Army from 1940 until 1946 spending 4 1/2 years in Cairo, Egypt. He came to the US in 1950. Mr. Green played tennis for over 70 years. He retired and moved to New London in 1986. He was involved with Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Country Squires, Audubon Society, the New London Historical Society, and was very active at the Mountainside Racquet and Fitness Center. He was a woodcarver and caligrapher and wildflower photographer. Mr. Green gave slide shows for local groups on wildflowers and designed and made scenery for local theatre productions. He enjoyed gardening, outdoors, and walking. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles and a sister, Margaret. Members of his family surviving include his wife of 56 years, Kathleen (Mahoney) Green of New London, NH; a daughter, Elizabeth Eager of Manchester, NH; a son, Richard Green of East Greenbush, NY; five grandsons, Brandon and Trevor Green and Christopher, Charlie, and Joseph Eager; two brothers, Jack Green of Suffolk, England and Wally Green of Essex, England; nieces, nephews, and cousins. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 1, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at The First Baptist Church of New London.
