MERSKY (Hersh), Deena It is with heavy hearts that we share the sad news that our mother, Deena Mersky, died Friday August 10, at the age of 87, surrounded by her family. Like everything she did in life, she did it "her way." She had been given a life expectancy of 3 to 6 months and seemed to be...

Not sure what to say?

I had hoped to join you in person to express condolences to Deena's family and many friends but am not well and don't want to risk passing it along. I was very fond of Deena and appreciated her passion, energy, and commitment to advocating for what's right. She was an ally in ending violence, providing support to women to realize themselves and live their own lives. We who got to know her professionally could not help but admire her personally. She was warm, caring, direct, very smart,...

I spoke with Deena before she left on her trip we had planned to do lunch with several of our friends who work with us at Planned Parenthood of Austin. Deena was a wonderful person and I am glad to call my friend.

Yesterday I visited my parents at Westminster for the first time since Deena's passing, and it just didn't feel the same knowing she was gone. It's always been great hearing about the wonderful friends my parents have made there, including Deena. I got to know her through my little dog Zelda, who loved the chance to play with Stella in the halls or outside in the garden area. Deena was kind, smart, and obviously very engaged in the community, and I feel privileged to have known her, even for...

It is with my deepest condolences that I write this note. Deena was the most wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. I have been so fortunate to have been aquatinted with her through Ruth, Gracie and Planned Parenthood. I still treasure her thoughts on her granddaughter's (Gracie) bat mitzvah. I was very lucky to have been able to participate in planning a bat mitzvah with this beloved family.
The love amongst this family was contagious and everyone embraced it.
Deena will be...

I was so saddened to hear of Deena's passing. Her tribute was beautiful and conveyed the love her family felt for her and I'm sure of all those of us with whom she touched. I was one of her social work students who graduated in 1981. I always held her in my mind as the kind of person and social worker to aspire to be. She left a strong impression on me. I am so sorry for your loss.
Love,
Cathy Goldfarb

What a beautiful tribute for a very dynamic woman. Her many contributions to this world made it a better place. It is obvious from the stories I have heard through the years, and from all that you have written that Deena had a rich life.

I am thinking of you all as you remember and celebrate Deena's Life.

Love,
Jayne
