Not sure what to say?

Hello everyone, thank you for your wonderful thoughts, condolences and memories. Some of you we know or remember from our wonderful growing up years in the Eugene days from the early 1960s-early 1990s, and others we don't know, but are equally glad to hear from you. Mom (and Dad) had great friendships and associations with a broad spectrum of friends, families and co-workers and others, and it has been touching to hear the meaningful reverbations in these great words you all have written. My...

John, Gordon, and Peter:

This is late, I know--I only read of your mother's death yesterday when the Oregon Magazine arrived, and it is strange, because I often have thought of her and wondered what she had been up to in the years since your father's death. I imagine that you will have others signing this guest book after just reading the magazine.

You probably have no memory of me, but I remember you being all around while your father, Barre Toelken, and I...

I did not know Didi but I just finished reading a lengthy documents review she did for Swalley Irrigation District in Bend dated 2005. Then I read her brief resume attached. Her documents review and her resume were so impressive I went to look her up and read that she passed away recently. I am sorry. Her work is of great benefit to Swalley Irrigation District.

Today is 5 weeks since Mom's passing on Nov 12. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to offer your condolences, wonderful memories and supportive thoughts. We're truly enjoying reading each of your entries and reflecting on what you've written. Thanks again, and have a great holiday season! -- the Malarkey bros (John/Gordon/Pete).

To the Malarkey family - I worked with Didi years ago at Hutchinson Cox. I adored her. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She was a joy!

Dear Peter, John and Gordon,
I was so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. She and Stoddard were such wonderful neighbors and friends. It was so enjoyable to watch our children grow up right across the street from one another. Your mother was a dynamo! We met once at Black Butte and enjoyed our time together. Do take care.

Dear John, Peter and Gordon, Your mother always carried herself in a very kind and classy manner. I remember her smile and pleasant way. What a coincidence that our mothers passed the same day. I hope they have a wonderful reunion and that when our time comes we will join them again.

Peter, I'm so sorry to learn of your mother's departure. I'm also sorry that I never made it up to Port Angeles to visit with her. I always enjoyed the vibrant discussions we had in Eugene, when you were growing up.

What a lady she was. Didi ranks highly among many wonderful Eugene friends. She and Stoddard had three outstanding sons, the same ages as our sons. Didi's Eastern breeding and sophistication complimented a natural western style of living. We admired her spirit, her intelligence, wit and a certain unique, illuminating smile. When she found herself alone she displayed courage and ingenuity, exemplified by her Peace Corps undertaking and working for the State Water Resources Board. Deschutes...
