As Clark's assistant at the California Farm Bureau for several years, I learned a lot about the business and the man. He was a one-of-a-kind boss who often tried to affect the demeanor of a gruff, hard-nosed newsman. No one that worked with him bought into his act because the next minute he might share some delightful story about his grandkids.
