Delbert M. Emerson, Jr.
Born in Shawnee, Oklahoma during a Christmas blizzard, Del Emerson, Jr. came into this world one month early. A snowbound doctor arrived the next day, long after Del was delivered by his distraught father and relieved mother.
As a 12th generation American and WWII Navy veteran, he served his country well in the Pacific, also introducing him to his love for engineering. After the war, he attended the University of Oklahoma and took a position with General Motors in Venezuela, where he met his beautiful English wife, Veronica Patricia. After a whirlwind courtship, they married in the Cathedral of San Jose in Costa Rica. Returning to Maracaibo, where over the years they welcomed their four children, sadly losing one baby. The Emersons moved to Seattle in 1960 and into their beloved Tudor-style home overlooking Puget Sound. This home was loved by children, grandchildren, family and numerous friends for many years. Del is remembered as a kind and caring employer of his employees at Emerson Diesel, the company he founded in Washington state and Alaska. Also among his endeavors was Airlift Northwest, the ambulance service which continues to serve the people of the Pacific Northwest.
Del died June 25, 2015 in Seattle, surrounded by his wife, children, family and God. He is survived by Veronica Patricia, his loving wife of 66 years; children, Christopher (Karen), Paul (Karin) and Sandra Uberuaga (Richard); 8 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by their infant son, David.
